Happy Death Day 2U (M, 100 minutes) Directed by Christopher Landon ★★★★
About a year back, Happy feast of death was an unexpected glimpse deal late one Wednesday night.
Unexpected, because I did not know anything about the film, but I was not ready to go back for teenagers. And a treat, because what appeared on the screen was a really funny gem, carefully crafted and devilishly well thought out.
A young woman named Teresa "Tree" Gelbman (Jessica Rothe) wakes up and discovers that she is stuck in a time loop, cursed to live on the same day for eternity until the next day. she resolves her own macabre murder in the hands of a masked maniac. All the critics of the world, myself included, called it "Groundhog Day-meets-Yell"And then went to the pub to toast our spirit and our soul.
Another suite? How will it work, without being just a lazy retreader of the original?
Jokes and gags arrive quickly and well in Happy Death Day 2U.

Happy Death Day was a surprise surprise late 2017.
Writer / director Christopher Landon – who directed the film, but did not write the first film – solves the problem with a neat sleight of hand. It turns out that the young boy who settles on Teresa each morning is a physics ace with a boy at the bottom who can open doors to other dimensions. And it is from there that all this nonsense has begun.
Good death 2U suffers a little from his need to explain the mechanisms of what happens to Tree. When a plot is so simple but daft, it is better to leave it without examination. (Did any one ever need to know how Bill Murray was stuck in Groundhog Day? The original script contained an explanation, but it was wisely decided that the film did not need it.)
Jessica Rothe and Israel Broussard play the main role in Happy Death Day 2U.
What works here is what worked the first time. Jokes and gags arrive quickly and well. Horror scenes are staged with skill. And there is a level of spirit and detail in the film that speaks loudly of filmmakers who really love the process and the craft.
In addition, Jessica Rothe is once again remarkable as a Tree, with comedy chops that would put most of Saturday Night Live the crew to shame.
