Well, from the start, when producing the first Godzilla, maybe when we were in postproduction was when I first spoke to then-Legendary manager Thomas Tull and producer Mary Parent and Alex Garcia, who is the executive in charge of the franchise since then, from this idea of making a Kong movie, and Thomas’s vision, because he’s a huge fan of Big Monsters and Godzilla and Kong, was ultimately to develop into Godzilla vs. Kong. [Those were the] sort of adventures he had in mind to provoke, but it was sort of one step at a time. I didn’t realize it until we were like, ‘Okay, Godzilla went pretty well, so let’s aim for a Kong film, and here’s why we want to bring them together.
