Ralph Hasenhuttl believes he has built a "special relationship" with Nathan Redmond to make the most of the front of Southampton.
Redmond scored their first double in two years to help the Saints defeat the Wolves at St Mary's 3-1, keeping them safe in the Premier League.
Former Birmingham striker Redmond was unable to find the net under the boss of former Saints boss Mark Hughes – but now has eight goals in 20 games in all competitions under the Hasenhuttl mandate.
Hasenhuttl scored his eighth win in 18 league games for Saints as the South Coast men swept the Wolves, leaving the Austrian boss of the winner's project leader, Redmond.
When asked how he brought Redmond back to form, Hasenhuttl said, "It's a bit of everything, sometimes giving him a smooth shoulder, sometimes criticizing him.
"But we have a special relationship, I think.
"He knows I ask him a lot, not only with the ball but also without it.
"He shows every game he learns and improves.
"I showed him what we needed in his position and showed him that he can be the guy who can make the difference.
"I knew it was only a matter of time for him to score again."
Greeting Southampton supporters for having proclaimed him a standing ovation full time, Hasenhuttl continued, "That's what I've been working for since day one; that we stand together and walk together.
"When you win, the pressure goes up and you can then celebrate with the fans. It's the best moment of the weekend.
"We want to give them good weekends with a lot of fun at our games.
"To give them back what they gave us for 90 minutes."
