Hats were distributed at the Mon Health Birth Center through the "Little Hats, Big Hearts" program

MORGANTOWN W.Va – On Tuesday afternoon, hats were offered at the Mon Health Birth Center as part of the "Little Hats, Big Hearts" program.

Babies born in West Virginia hospitals in February receive a small red cap from the American Heart Association.

This program raises awareness of conbad heart disease, which affects 25,000 babies each year in the United States.

Volunteers from across the state knit and crochet the hats to hand out.

"One in every 100 babies is born with a conbad heart defect, it is a small hole in the heart or a seriously threatening condition." We want to show our support to these people and their families – we want to show support to babies – it's a great way to start a conversation about conbad heart defects, "said Ryan Jerico, director of development for the American Heart Association.

100 helmets were distributed Tuesday at My Health, and nearly 1500 in the state.
