NPP chairman for the Abuakwa South constituency in the eastern region, Mr. Yaw Boakye Yiadom, said the party lost the 2008 elections to the NDC due to the many presidential candidates scrambling for the post of party flag bearer.

According to him, the party had 17 candidates vying for the post of flag bearer to lead the party in the 2008 general election.

He said the situation had led to deep rifts within the party, with supporters of the various candidates divided.

President Boakye Yiadom added that the only way to break the 8 is to bury their differences and come together as one family to help achieve the goal.

He was speaking to this reporter during an interview at the 2021 Annual Constituency Delegates Conference held at the Kyebi Presbyterian College of Education under the theme “Breaking the 8 is a must and our collective responsibility in the party to win the 2024 elections.

Hon. Kojo Ofori-Sarfo, the DCE of the Abuakwa Southern District Assembly encourages party members to recharge their batteries for the 2024 task of keeping the party in power.

He noted that the party’s margins in the 2016 election were halved in the 2020 general election, giving a worrying signal that the party needs to improve its game.

“Our votes dropped significantly to over 500,000 in the 2020 election and that doesn’t mean we didn’t perform well, but that’s because of disunity, backbiting, gossip, etc. among us, “he noted.

Hon. Ofori-Sarfo pointed out that with unity, peace, unity, love and understanding, they can break the 8-year-old jinx.
