Dr Kingsley Nyarko, MP for Kwadaso, expressed confidence in the ability of the Minister-designate of Fisheries and Aquaculture to deliver on his promises when given the opportunity.
He stressed that Ms. Hawa Koomson’s ability to solve relevant problems was beyond doubt as she had been able to demonstrate it in many areas.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in reaction to criticism from parts of the public that Ms Koomson did not impress Parliament’s nominating committee during its review, Dr Nyarko said those criticisms did not ‘were unfounded.
Many people argued that Ms Koomson was not only fluent in English, but also that she did not seem to know what was at stake in the department she had been appointed to lead.
However, Dr Nyarko was of the opinion that it was only in Ghana that fluency in the English language was equated with intelligence.
“If for some reason you are unable to express yourself fluently or in English, then you are considered a persona non grata.
It is very sad because mastering any language is not necessarily a measure of intelligence.
Intelligence goes beyond that, ”he told the Ghana News Agency.
He said that intelligence, in its basic meaning, refers to a person’s ability to apply acquired knowledge and skills to solve problems.
“If you are eloquent in any language, but you cannot solve life or social problems, what is the use of your eloquence?” He asked.
Dr Nyarko further explained that an intelligent person is not necessarily eloquent, nor one who can write very well.
According to him, an intelligent person was one who had a demonstrable ability to solve problems, make society better, and improve the lot of others.
The MP for Kwadaso described Ms Koomson as an intelligent person, able to take on new challenges and achieve positive results.
According to him, when Ms Koomson was appointed by President Akufo-Addo to the post of Minister of Special Development Initiatives, she fulfilled her duties perfectly and fulfilled her merits.
He said that was probably the reason the President appointed her for the new post.
“Every time I see Hon Hawa Koomson, I see the intelligence in her; I see intelligence in its ability to deliver results, he noted.
Dr Nyarko recalled how, when she was appointed Minister of Special Initiatives during President Akufo-Addo’s first term, she came to the University of Ghana and engaged some of her colleagues (Dr Nyarko) to the business school who conducted a survey (needs assessment) across the country and helped her develop a framework that guided her to deliver.
“If it’s not an act of intelligence, then tell me what is?” Look at the positive results she has produced in her ministry?
Roadblocks in villages, ambulances for all constituencies and stadiums, places of convenience and the many other social interventions across the length and breadth of the country, ”he said.
Dr Nyarko stressed the need for Ghanaians to judge people on the basis of their background.
“Let’s look at people’s record in the past, their determination to transform and their propensity to fulfill their mandate.
The nominations committee should appreciate that she came to the audit without academic or professional knowledge in the field of fishing, but has demonstrated interest and commitment to an office, only when given the opportunity. , it will deliver, ”he said.
