Hawaiian seeks additional flights to Tokyo Haneda Airport

HONOLULU – Hawaiian Airlines is more than doubling its daily service between Tokyo's Haneda Airport and Hawaii.

Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports that the airline has asked the US Department of Transportation that three of Haneda's 12 locations are made available to US carriers.

Hawaiian plans to begin new flights in about a year. The airline estimates that additional flights would attract 85,000 new visitors to that state.

Hawaiian started flying from Haneda to Honolulu in 2010.

It added a second daily service in 2016, which provides non-stop connections to Honolulu four days a week and non-stop to Kailua-Kona three days a week.

Haneda is one of the two main airports serving Tokyo.

It is closer to many parts of Japan's capital than its alternative, Narita International Airport.
