Hawkeye villain is Kate Bishop’s mother

Marvel Studios hasn’t revealed who Hawkeye’s main villain is, but could Kate Bishop’s mother, played by Vera Farmiga, be Madam Mask?

Hawk EyeThe main villain of is still a mystery, but the Disney + series could reveal that Kate Bishop’s mother is the latest menace in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Jeremy Renner’s time as Clint Barton will continue after Avengers: Endgame. Just like Scarlett Johansson had waited so long for her Black Widow solo movie, Marvel Studios decided to give Renner’s Hawkeye a Disney + show to give the character a real spotlight. However, Hawkeye’s next chapter in MCU history is still shrouded in mystery.

Clint Barton is at the center of Hawk Eye, where his family will return and where he will become partially deaf, but Marvel has also put together a great set for the adventure series. It borrows a lot from the famous film by Matt Fraction Hawk Eye comic book, which signifies Kate Bishop’s MCU debut. Hailee Steinfeld is attached to play Clint’s Apprentice and the Future of the Hawkeye Coat. Marvel Studios has also confirmed several other cast members, such as Clint’s former mentor and eventual Avenger, Swordsman (Tony Dalton) and future Marvel hero Maya Lopez aka Echo (Alaqua Cox).

The last confirmed member of Hawk Eye is Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) after Black WidowThe post-credits scene set her hunting down Clint on Disney +. His involvement adds another possible villain to Clint and Kate, but it has not yet been revealed exactly who the main villain of the series is. Based on a previous rumor, Hawk Eyeand Marvel Studios’ increased tendency to reveal late villains in their Disney + shows, Kate Bishop’s mother may be the main villain – and one Marvel comic readers are familiar with.

Hawkeye’s main villain is unknown

Villains from the Hawkeye TV series

With all the information known about Hawk Eye, a mystery that fans are still trying to uncover is who will be the main villain. Black WidowThe post-credits scene teases Yelena Belova will be a threat to Clint Barton’s life. However, it seems unlikely that a future MCU hero will kill any of the original Avengers. Even though she is an antagonist to Clint and Kate when she enters the story, the role of Hawk EyeThe main villain should always be up for grabs.

There is also no shortage of candidates to complicate the life of Clint and Kate. Hawk Eye will feature Marvel villains The Clown (Fra Fee), Swordsman, Echo, Yelena and the Draculas Tracksuit. However, none of these characters shout out the main villain of a Disney + show. The comics used Clown as a hired hitman, and he will likely fill a similar role in the series. Swordsman and Echo both hesitated between being heroes and villains as well. And with Yelena’s seemingly bright MCU future, that leaves only the Draculas tracksuit. However, these are low-level threats that Clint and Kate routinely thwarted in the source material.

Hawkeye is believed to include Madame Masque

Madame Mask Infinite Bazaar

There is another villain who Hawk Eye is rumored to include, however. It was reported in late 2020 that the character known as Madame Masque would be on the MCU Disney + show. There are several versions of Madame Masque in the comics, with Agent Carter previously using the Whitney Frost version of the character in Season 2. If Madame Masque is in Hawk Eye, it looks like Marvel Studios would be using Giuletta Nefaria, the daughter of supervillain and crime syndicate leader Luchino Nefaria. Despite the reported supporting role Madame Masque will have in Hawk Eye, there is no one officially chosen to play it.

At the start of the Disney + shows from Marvel Studios, a trend already started to develop around villains. The first three MCU series included late revealing villains. WandaVision waited until the end of episode 7 to confirm that Agnes of Kathryn Hahn was Agatha Harkness and the real villain of the series. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier then made a point of confirming that Sharon Carter (Emily Van Camp) was the Power Broker until the final. Likewise, confirmation that a variant of Kang known as He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors) was originally the Time Variance Authority only came when Lokithe final of. The absence of Madame Masque’s casting for Hawk Eye maybe because Marvel is hoping to pull off another surprise.

Theory: Kate Bishop’s mother is Madame Masque

Vera Farmiga as Dr. Emma Russell in her kitchen at the start of Godzilla King of the Monsters

If Madame Masque is in Hawk Eye, then there’s a chance the character is actually Kate Bishop’s mother. It is confirmed that Vera Farmiga will play Eleanor Bishop in the series. Farmiga is a very talented actress and quite recognizable after roles in films like the Conjuring franchise and Godzilla: King of the Monsters and her long-standing role as Norma Bates in the psychopath prequel tv series Motel Bates. This is what made her surprising to learn that she was playing Kate Bishop’s mother. Eleanor doesn’t have a big role in the comics, and although Hawk Eye could increase her involvement in Kate’s life, it still feels like a bit smaller role than one would expect for Farmiga. One way to change that would be to reveal that Eleanor Bishop is Madame Masque and Hawk Eyethe main villain of.

It might seem like a major change to some, but Eleanor and Madame Masque already have a connection in the comics. Kate believed her mother was dead for most of her life. However, the comics later revealed that Eleanor was alive and had ordered Madame Masque to attack Kate. Hawk Eye can streamline this connection by turning Eleanor into Madame Masque. This would give Madame Masque a stronger connection to the story and characters of the show, in the same way that Black Widow revealed that Antonia Dreykov was Taskmaster and linked the villain to Natasha Romanoff’s past. It also gives Vera Farmiga a much bigger role to play in Hawk Eye and maybe beyond.

What could be Madame Masque’s plan

Hawkeye Marvels Greatest Criminal Empire Count Nefaria Madame Mask

The combination of Eleanor Bishop and Madame Masque in one character creates fascinating possibilities for what her role could be in Hawk Eye. The Giuletta Nefaria version of Madame Masque has ties to the Maggia, and Kate Bishop’s father was known to deal with criminals in the past. This could lead the MCU to make Kate’s family a secretly powerful part of an underground criminal enterprise. If so, Eleanor’s role in Hawk Eye could involve the quest for more power and to make a bigger game. Perhaps it will even include the training of Masters of Evil.

It is also possible that Hawk Eye can relate Madame Masque’s story and Eleanor’s comic book story to recent events in the MCU. Marvel Studios didn’t hesitate to use The Blip and Avengers: Endgamethe five-year time jump in her Phase 4 stories. It’s possible Eleanor was one of those ripped from existence. If she has any connection to crime, her absence for five years would have led to someone else replacing her. However, that person would likely not be ready and willing to move back down the criminal food chain to welcome Eleanor’s return. This could cause her to take on Madame Masque’s identity and weaken those who think they are now above her. This would obviously lead to a meeting with Clint and Kate and give Madame Masque her own revenge story as Hawk Eye takes place.
