The hay fever season is in full swing with the onset of hot and windy weather. With higher temperatures expected this weekend, many people are preparing for sneezing, itchy eyes and itchy throat triggering. One of the worst times of the day for people with hay fever is bedtime, when pollen in the air settles. But what can you do to control your symptoms at night?

Dr. Chris appeared in This Morning of ITV to reveal seven tips.

These included:

  • Cover your bedding during the day
  • Keep your bedroom windows closed – this will prevent pollen from entering your house
  • Wash bedding frequently
  • Wear sunglbades to protect the pollen from the eyes
  • Change clothes as soon as you come home and avoid putting on clothes the night before
  • Wash your hair and shower
  • Do not leave the dog or cat in the room

Along with his advice, Dr. Chris spoke about the difficulties hay fever has for adolescents, especially at this time of the year.

He said: "38% of teens have hay fever and half a million facial exams at this time of year.

"Their vision can be affected, so are their exams.

"I think they should move the exams to another time of year."

Treatment of hay fever is available from your pharmacist.

They can give advice and suggest the best treatments, such as antihistamine drops, nasal tablets or sprays, to relieve itching and tearing of the eyes and sneezing, as well as a stuffy nose.

If your symptoms do not improve after taking medication from your pharmacy, the NHS recommends that you consult your GP.

Your doctor may prescribe steroids, and if that does not work, you may be referred for immunotherapy.

Dr. Chris also recommended a natural cure for hay fever, available on Main Street for about £ 8.

He said, "Hay Max has received 40 awards. It is a balm barrier to pollen.

"Rub it around your nostrils, it catches pollen and acts as a barrier.

"This reduces incoming pollen grains by 33%."

Experts advise you to start taking hay fever treatment at a certain time of the year for it to be effective.
