BURLINGTON, Vt.

Vermont health officials said two coyotes tested positive for rabies.

In a statement released on Friday, the Vermont Ministry of Public Health urged residents of areas close to Salisbury and New Haven to avoid sick or aggressive animals and to speak to game wardens or control officers. local animals.

The spokesman said one coyote had attacked two people in Salisbury and tests carried out earlier this month showed that he was enraged. The department received reports of aggressive behavior from another coyote in New Haven and also found a positive result for rabies on April 12.

A spokesman for the ministry said that rabies among coyotes was relatively rare.

It is possible that other coyotes or other wild species vulnerable to rabies are also sick.
