In the most recent case, a 29-year-old man from the Philippines, who worked at the City of Dreams hotel as a non-resident employee, was diagnosed with the rubella virus.
The patient had a fever on April 11th and rashes began to appear on the body, head and face from April 12th and spread to the members. On April 12, he reported to Kiang Wu Hospital and was referred to the emergency department of the public hospital. On April 13, the results of the laboratory tests showed a positive result for rubella.
Four recent cases of rubella have been detected at the City of Dreams hotel, including this one.
Rubella is highly contagious and patients may already be infected up to a week before presenting with visible signs of the virus, such as a rash. The MSS says that it monitors the health status of people who have been in contact with the patient during the onset of the virus.
Late last week, the SSM announced that it was predicting a slight increase in the number of rubella cases this year. However, he stressed that the SAR of Macao had a sufficient stock of vaccines to stay on top of the situation.
The rubella vaccine is the same as that used for measles and mumps, the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine. The MSS has recently increased its order of MMR vaccine to 15,000 doses in response to the measles outbreak in the territory.
In a separate statement, the MSS corrected a previous incorrect diagnosis of measles, saying the 37-year-old Macao resident, a StarWorld Hotel employee, had been diagnosed with rubella after further badysis.
