Despite its potentially lucrative nature, the CEO of healthcare computer company Epic Systems said it would not consider a potential offer from Apple.

Apple Health Records

"We will not do that," said Judy Faulkner Health News at a conference earlier this week. "It was just very gratifying to see that no health system had contacted us about this and said they were worried, they all said they laughed."

The executive responded to CNBC Jim Cramer, host of "Mad Money," explained that Apple should buy Epic because it sells medical file processing software to major US hospitals. Apple launched a Health Records feature in March 2018, to back up encrypted patient data in the iOS Health app for quick access and sharing with caregivers. Earlier this week, Apple announced plans to bring this technology to US veterans.

"I think the thing that surprised me the most about it is not that he said it, but that the message is so clear across the board." the industry we would not do that, "continued Faulkner. "And no one doubted it – it was a real feat, I think."

Faulkner is unusual in the world of business by refusing to make transactions or to go public. While this strategy is risky, it also has benefits, such as not being accountable to shareholders who are solely concerned with their own performance.
