Health workers storm major markets in Abidjan to promote Covid-19 bites

Health workers in Abidjan present a vaccination campaign to traders in popular markets in the financial capital of Côte d’Ivoire.

Megaphones in hand, health workers urge traders and buyers to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

Traders and customers in Treichville market, a district of Abidjan, gathered to register and received their vaccines from a mobile health unit parked outside.

“I just received my Covid vaccine, I am really relieved, because I had wanted to do it for a long time. I came to the Treichville market, I saw people in the countryside so I took advantage of it. am really happy and relieved, ”said Amsatouu Diallo, vaccinated.

Luicie Kpan Touré is a health worker. She wants “everyone to have access to vaccination”.

“I hope that there is no shortage of vaccines, so that we do not have a third wave of contamination because there have been too many deaths, so we really should not stop the vaccination. J ‘would like it to continue, I would like it to become a routine, we would like everyone to have access to vaccination,’ said Touré.

Ivorian authorities will step up the campaign for jabs over the next 15 days in more than 130 markets in Abidjan. The aim is to reach those who have not been able to get bitten elsewhere, as some African countries are facing a third wave of infections.

The World Health Organization has said the number of coronavirus cases is doubling in Africa every three weeks.

In Côte d’Ivoire, 48,564 people have been infected with the virus, 47,936 people have recovered and at least 315 have died during the pandemic, according to Johns Hopkins University.
