GREAT-GRANDAD Leonard Durkin had his last wish fulfilled when his hearse called for a drive-thru from Burger King – for a last Bacon cheeseburger.
Joker Leonard, 71, made this claim because his 50-year-old son Peter and himself visited the delivery spot during their weekly trips to the grave of his wife, Mary, after his death he two years ago.
He always had the same order and told Peter that when he died, he wanted the last time the burger XL at £ 4.
Director of Funeral, Adrian Benson, has fulfilled this wish. After ordering at the restaurant located at Elland Road in Leeds, he was placed above Leonard's coffin, under the darkened glare of diners.
Peter, a broadband technician, said, "Dad had a brilliant sense of humor and before he died, he said he wanted to do that.
"He'll be laughing about it up there.
"We were always going to get something to eat after visiting the cemetery where my mother is.
"Every time we went to Burger King, he received a Bacon Double Cheeseburger XL, so it was the one we gave him the day of his funeral.
"DO NOT RAISE A SOURCIL"
"People on the street and inside the restaurant almost broke their heads to look at us.
"They could not believe what they saw.
"But the lady who served us at the window just acted as if it was as if nothing had happened, she did not even raise an eyebrow."
Former miner Leonard, of Leeds, had six children, 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He died of heart failure on May 28, after battling the disease for several years.
But he never lost his sense of humor and at the end of his funeral at the crematorium, we played the clbadic "Ring of Fire" Johnny Cash.
Die
Director of Funeral Adrian Benson added, "I can not say that anyone has ever asked to go through a driving service before going to the service.
"It was a first for me.
"We told the person serving us that the hamburger was for the man at the back, but I think the joke was a little lost for them.
"We try to make an extra effort to give people exactly what they want.
