A resident of Kokomlemle in Accra was arrested for openly directing sewage from her home into the street.
The arrest was made following an order from the Regional Minister of Greater Accra, Henry Quartey.
According to the minister, the woman’s actions had caused illegal damage to public property and invoked part of article 172 of law 29.
The law states that anyone who intentionally and unlawfully causes damage to property by any means of a value not exceeding GHS 1 million, or of no pecuniary value, will be guilty of an offense.
If damage is caused to a value greater than 1 million GHS, the offender will be guilty of a second degree felony.
The woman, who was not at home at the time of the minister’s visit to the region, was reported to the local assembly by an concerned citizen.
