JOHNSON COUNTY, KY (WOWK) – The independent schools of Johnson County closed their schools Wednesday after their administrators learned of the existence of several cases of influenza A and Influenza B, as well as of a confirmed case of hepatitis A.
Thom Cochran, superintendent of independent schools in Johnson County, took the FaceBook Tuesday night in these terms: "I was informed that there had been a case of infection at the school. Hepatitis A in our school district This case is a member of the Johnson County non-food service staff In addition to this case, we have confirmed cases of influenza A and influenza B in several schools.As a precaution extra for our routine cleaning, we will close schools. [on Wednesday], January 23, 2019. "
Cochran added that additional cleaning and disinfection work would be done during school closures on Wednesday to ensure the safety of students and staff.
According to Cochran, Kentucky law requires students to be vaccinated against hepatitis A before the start of the school year.
He hopes that parents who have not yet vaccinated their children will benefit from the closure of the school on Wednesday to be able to do so.
