WALDENBERG, Ark. (AP) – State health officials warn residents of Northeast Arkans of another possible exposure to hepatitis after an employee of a station-based market service there was tested positive for the virus.
Officials from the Arkansas Department of Health said Friday that a Jordanian employee Kwik Stop in Waldenberg had been tested positive for the hepatitis A virus. They warned anyone who would have eaten there or drunk between March 14th and March 29th to be vaccinated immediately.
Northeast Arkansas fights a hepatitis epidemic.
The department will hold free vaccination clinics in Harrisburg, Marked Tree, Trumann and Waldenberg on Monday.
Health officials said that since February 2018, 317 cases of the disease have been reported, including three deaths.
Hepatitis A is a contagious and potentially life-threatening but treatable liver disease. Symptoms include fever, nausea, fatigue and jaundice.
