DENTAL DILEMMAS – Dr. Karim Rachidi of Synergy Dental Clinics Helps Solve Dental Problems

Q. I am always busy and I do not have the chance to see the dentist. Any advice on how to treat my teeth?

A. It can often seem quite difficult to stay on your teeth when you lead a busy life.

Although visiting your dentist is a priority when it comes to taking care of your teeth, there are several simple and alternative ways to take care of it.

Our teeth are constantly at risk of being attacked by acid whenever we eat or drink something, especially if it contains sugar. Over time, this causes tooth decay, which can lead to the formation of cavities.

In addition to brushing your teeth twice a day for two minutes, chewing sugar-free gum throughout the day is a great way to protect your teeth from cavities. This is because it helps your mouth produce saliva, which acts as a natural defense against acid buildup.

Another solution is to use a mouthwash. Often, people think that the mouthwash should be used immediately after brushing your teeth. This can have the opposite effect since mouthwash can remove toothpaste fluoride from the surface of your teeth. Instead, it is best to use a mouthwash after the meal and not eat or drink anything for more than 30 minutes.

I always point out to my patients how important it is to consult your dentist at least once a year for a checkup. A simple medical examination can take about 15 to 45 minutes and allow you to keep your teeth healthy.
