Here's how your appearance affects your personality, according to science

It goes without saying that physically stronger men tend to be more aggressive and more physically attractive women are extroverted. But why is it? And how does our appearance actually affect our personality?

A new study, published in the journal Evolution and human behavior, investigated this issue and discovered that it is not just the result of its appearance; instead, it's about gender and behavior.

The team of scientists from the University of Göttingen examined two independent groups of participants from Germany and the United Kingdom. All participants were X-rayed with the help of a 3D scanner, and their grip strength and upper body were measured to determine their strength and physique.

The researchers found that they could not confirm a clear link between attractiveness and extroversion in women.

"Although women who consider themselves attractive are more likely to be sociable and less shy, this could be the reason," said Christoph von Borell, lead author of the study.

In order to determine whether their outside behavior was solely the result of their appearance, the researchers chose a study protocol in which physical attractiveness was badessed by other people.

"When we did that, the connection can no longer be observed," von Borell explained.

For men, the study showed that more muscular men were actually more extroverted and considered that aggressive behaviors were more useful.

In many other behaviors, however, the results showed no clear connection with the appearance of men.
