How did you come to be part of Seven Bucks?
We have always had an excellent relationship between us three. The first time I met Dwayne, I was 13 years old. They both went out to the University of Miami and I was in high school. So a weekend, I went to visit my sister and I met this gigantic football player and it is very rarely that I met a man as tall as me. Even at that age, I was generally guaranteed to be bigger than any of my sister's boyfriends, but when I met Dwayne, I thought, "Wow, that's good. "He's a great guy." I started to help him creatively with his struggle, whether it be his dialogue or building the character of the rock. It would be me, this and this WWE writer, Brian Gewirtz (EVP Seven Bucks of TV Development) forming this character. So we always had this connection. We were invited to do "Scorpion King", and he asked me if I wanted to come on the set because he had never done anything like that and was hoping to use my help. What did you learn from the daily work ethic of Dwayne and Dany that influenced your own driving?

If you come to work alongside two people like that who have been standing for hours, this motivation will lead you to greatness. I owe them everything, not because they gave it to me, but they made me work for it and I'm so much better at it.
How do you choose the projects and stories you want to undertake, especially when it comes to finding "Fighting With Your Family"?
One of the things we're always looking for – and I know that sounds very typical – but what we really want to see is something that has heart, something that has soul. We are looking for something that we think will resonate globally. The kind of story that is not segmented into one area, but a story or theme that can be translated across the world. In the end, we are movie fans and storytellers, and the biggest benefit of "Fighting With My Family" is that you still love an oppressed story.
The fact is that we did not go into this film saying, "Oh, we want to make an independent film." We never say that we want to make an independent film or studio movie, we just knew it was a story meant. We actually started with our studio partners and we took care of them and thought we had great relationships everywhere, but unfortunately it did not land. They were not connected, but that did not discourage us. That's how we went in the independent way, because we were determined to make the film. So we went to Film4 and then the WWE jumped on it and before you knew it, like the day or the week before production started, MGM came in and ended up picking it up.
How was the feeling when the film was accepted at Sundance?
When we found out that we were at Sundance, we were texting like stunned kids, shouting, "Oh my god, we went to Sundance!" It also makes us happy for Paige, on whom the film is based. She believed in us to tell her story and for her to see how it happened during our stay was extremely rewarding.
