His Heung-min spends the season of his life. He scored 10 Premier League goals in just 14 starts – including crucial strikes in each of Tottenham's last two games – and helped ease Harry Kane's burden.
His pace of work can not be questioned. His made more sprints than any player on the field in both Spurs games last week, although he recently returned from the Asian Cup with South Korea.
He stepped up and became a key player for Mauricio Pochettino. It is to his credit that he gets talked about as a player of the year. While His plea convincingly, he is not quite in my list of six candidates.
His Heung-min was excellent for Tottenham but others were even better
Nobody approaches Virgil van Dijk. He turned Liverpool into a rock-solid team that is the favorite to win his first league title in 29 years. His teammate and defending player of the year, Mo Salah, needs to get an idea of his chances of defending the crown. He continued his first record-breaking season at Anfield, placing at the top of the scoring charts with 16 goals.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Kane – the rivals of Salah's gold boots – must also be included. Aubameyang was prolific in an Arsenal team that fought for creativity while Kane remains the most important Spurs player. His goals have earned the Spurs six points – more than any other player – and his recent attacks against PSV have saved their campaign in the Champions League.
In Manchester City, Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane and Bernardo Silva have all had excellent seasons, but I would say that David Silva should be on the finalist list. Now 33 years old and without Kevin De Bruyne at his side for most of the campaign, he made the heart of Pep Guardiola beat.
Chelsea may have blown hot and cold, but you can not escape Eden Hazard. He is the most naturally talented player in our league and has double digits for goals and badists. With this price, timing is paramount.
Last year, De Bruyne was the big favorite, but Salah stormed the run. But looking at the season up to now, these six are the most outstanding candidates.
PS My favorite for the young player of the year? Declan Rice, West Ham midfielder David Brooks (Bournemouth) and Matteo Guendouzi (Arsenal).
After a week so tragic and moving after the death of Emiliano Sala, Cardiff's victory over Bournemouth represents the performance of the season. This highlights the incredible work that Neil Warnock has done in this club. I'm sure all neutrals will agree that Cardiff stays awake.
All neutrals will want Cardiff to stay awake after the disappearance of Emiliano Sala
It's great to see my former Southampton teammate and Sportsmail Colleague Peter Crouch returns to the Premier League.
He still has a lot to offer – as he demonstrated when he won Burnley's first penalty in 67 Premier League matches. Sean Dyche will use it wisely and I expect it to continue to have a big impact.

Why Sarri's vision is based on Higuain
The five teams that won the title at Chelsea have one thing in common.
Jose Mourinho brought Didier Drogba to the club in his first season and the striker was a key part of Chelsea's wins in 2005 and 2006. He then scored 29 goals in 32 games to send Carlo Ancelotti's men back Double in 2010.
The arrival of Diego Costa prompted Chelsea to win a third title under Mourinho in 2015 and another under Antonio Conte.
Since Conte has been scrambling with Costa, Chelsea has lacked a physical and snarling presence at the top of his team. Until now.
Maurizio Sarri did not have a center-front with which to work. Gonzalo Higuain can be a quick fix, but you can not doubt its quality. It may be the missing piece in Sarri's tactical plan.
Let's see how Chelsea manages with an appropriate focal point before drawing hasty conclusions about his manager.

Sean Longstaff did not deserve to be on the losing side as Newcastle was beaten by Tottenham. He is elegant on the ball, comfortable with both feet and, at just 21 years old, did not seem overwhelmed by the game against the Spurs and midweek against Manchester City.
He also has an excellent sport pedigree. His uncle is former Bolton and Celtic midfielder, Alan Thompson, and his father, David, played ice hockey for Britain.
No wonder he looks so cool at Wembley!

I was seriously impressed by Norwich who dismantled Leeds on Saturday. It was the best performance I saw at the championship this season.
Daniel Farke's men were well organized, elegant in possession of the ball and murderous in front of goal. Both teams are fighting for promotion but, of the two, it is Norwich who looks like the team has been made to play in the Premier League.
