A 25-year-old female passenger allegedly raped at gunpoint by a taxi driver and driver on Monday in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, said she was afraid to reveal she was HIV-positive .
The woman, who was thrown into a sugarcane field after the ordeal, told Reaction Unit SA (Rusa) security officers on Monday that she wanted to inform her attackers of her status, but feared they would shoot him.
Rusa spokesman Prem Balram said he was called by a passing motorist just after 3 p.m. after the driver was reported by the victim on the north lane of the N2 near the Sibaya casino.
“Response officers and medics were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they located the hysterical woman sitting in the emergency lane. She told a female response officer that she runs a kiosk at Durban, ”he said.
Balram said she got into a cab to visit her boyfriend.
“As they left Durban, she asked them why there were no other passengers in the minibus,” he said.
The driver put a rag over his face and asked him to be quiet.
“She was taken to a sugar cane field where the two men took turns raping her at gunpoint. They then left and left her on the ground,” he said. he says.
Police spokesman Captain Nqobile Gwala said a rape case was opened at the Verulam police station.
“The complainant alleges that [on Monday] At 2:30 p.m., she stopped a taxi near the Moses Mabhida Stadium on her way to KwaDukuza.
