Ho's municipal health department is continuing its community involvement in the use of treated mosquito nets and environmental management to preserve the gains of malaria control.
The Directorate also organizes regular vector control exercises with the support of Zoomlion and builds the capacity of its staff to reduce malaria numbers and prevent deaths.
Mr. Prosper Amegadzi, responsible for municipal issues on malaria, said this during an interview with the Ghana News Agency on the occasion of World Malaria Day.
He added that the Directorate was quietly celebrating no deaths related to malaria among under – fives in 2017 and 2018, nor any deaths related to malaria among pregnant women for the same period and was striving to prevent malaria. improve.
Mr. Amegadzi said that after the distribution of 90,000 mosquito nets treated in 2018, the municipality had recorded a significant drop in the number of malaria cases, from 52,457 in 2017 to 40,122 in 2018.
He added that the Branch's goal was to further reduce the figure for 2018 to about 25,000 by 2019 through the provision of more treated mosquito nets and called on all stakeholders to bring their support.
Mr. Amegadzi stated that the main concerns of the Branch were the presumptive treatment in some clinics and the refusal of patients to follow the full treatment prescribed by the physician.
He also deplored the reluctance of some people, especially city dwellers, to sleep in treated mosquito nets, even if they do.
The Malaysian Malaria Focal Person in 2017 told the Ghana News Agency that while 70 percent of residents in Ho Municipality had treated mosquito nets, only 40 percent used mosquito nets to prevent malaria. .
He said that a survey conducted on the shortfall had revealed that a lot of people in the municipality were using the mosquito nets only to allow visitors to create "good impressions".
