The parliamentary results for the Hohoe constituency have already been released by the Election Commission (EC), Energy Minister John Peter Amewu has revealed.
The minister, who was declared the winner of the legislative elections held in the Hohoe constituency on December 7, 2020, made this known in a Facebook post on Thursday, December 24, 2020.
Mr Amewu wrote: “The parliamentary results of the Hohoe constituency duly declared and published in the Official Gazette on Tuesday 22 December 2020 by the EC”.
“John-Peter Amewu, MP-elect for the Hohoe constituency.”
He also included on his page, the alleged copy of the results published in the Official Journal by the EC, dated Tuesday, December 22, 2020.
On Wednesday, December 23, 2020, the High Court of Ho Chi Minh City granted an interim injunction to prevent the Election Commission (EC) from classifying Mr. Amewu as an elected deputy for Hohoe in the Volta region.
The interim injunction granted by the court, chaired by Judge George Buadi, followed an ex parte request from eligible voters in the newly created district of Guan.
The petitioners also requested the court to prevent Mr. Amewu from standing as an MP for the region or from presenting himself as such.
Eligible voters, who reside in the newly created districts that include Santrofi, Akpafu, Likpe and Lolobi, were not allowed to vote in the December 7 legislative elections.
Following the establishment of the Oti region and the subsequent establishment of the Guan District which includes Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi and Likpe (SALL), the Ghana Election Commission issued a directive that the people of SALL should not is not expected to vote in parliament election in Hohoe constituency on Dec. 7. ”
Mr Amewu polled 26,952 votes to defeat the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Margaret Kweku, which garnered 21,821 votes.
Meanwhile, the EC has revealed that it will begin the process of establishing a new constituency in Guan District when Parliament begins in 2021.
