Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, the Reverend Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante
The very reverend Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante, moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, said he was concerned about the number of holidays observed in the country, describing the situation as a setback for national economic development.
He said that Ghana, like many other African countries, suffered from a huge development deficit, hence the need for the state to use more of productive time to facilitate economic development.
The Reverend Prof Mante therefore stressed the need for the State to reduce the number of holidays observed in the country and to put in place adequate supervision in the various institutions to ensure that workers use their time wisely and optimally.
He was speaking at a religious service to mark the dedication of a new block of children for the Presbyterian Methodist Church at Teshie Camp in Teshie, Accra.
"I do not understand why a country that is struggling like ours should have as many holidays as it is the same country where workers do not engage to work for eight hours, as planned.

"We are in a difficult economic situation, and studies have shown that 19 of the world's 20 poorest countries are in Africa, and we should be working in any other country," he said.
holidays
National holidays are governed by the Holidays Act 2001 (Act No. 601). Under this law, these days are clbadified as nonworking days and paid throughout the country.
At present Ghana has 12 holidays, including New Year's Day (1 January), Constitution Day (7 January), Workers' Day (1 May), the day of Independence Day (March 6th), Good Friday and Easter Monday.
The others are Eid-ul-Adha (Hajj period), Eid-ul-Fitr (Ramadan period), Farmers Day (first Friday of December), Christmas Day (December 25th), Boxing (December 26th) and Founders & # Day (August). 4)
Altitude change
In a sermon entitled: "Independence only makes sense if it is realized in God", the Reverend Prof Mante called for a change of attitude on the part of citizens and leaders to with regard to the management of state resources.
He is worried about what he has described as the habit of blaming others for the woes of the country and urged citizens, especially Christians, to show responsibility in their efforts.
"Young people must take responsibility and be ready to put their destiny in their hands. They must accept that the world is hard and accept to work hard to change their situation, "he said.
Children's block
The TCMPC has dedicated and named its multi-purpose children's block located in the 48th Engineer Regiment at Wajir Barracks in Teshie, following the death of Moses Mensah Tagoe, one of the former elders and superintendents of the Sunday School of church.
Called the Tagoe complex, the building, valued at 1 837 500 GH ¢, includes three halls, nine offices, a library, an infirmary, a 40-seat conference room and two independent one-bedroom apartments.
The chaplain in charge of the church, the Reverend Lt Commander DB Quayson, explained that the new building was named after the late Tagoe, in recognition of the decisive role he had played in the creation and growth from the Ministry of Children when he served the church from 1956 to 2005.
Culture of maintenance
For his part, the Chief of the Defense Staff, Lieutenant-General Obed Boamah Akwa, congratulated the church for its mobilization of resources to set up a multipurpose structure for the glory of God and the well-being of his children.
He urged facility users to adopt a positive maintenance culture to ensure its sustainability.
He is committed to donating two air conditioners and a TV to install on the site.
