In early January and at Consumer Electronics Show 2019, Gardena announced Home Kit support for Gardena Smart System. We can now report the completion and update of HomeKit is ready.
Gardena Smart System: the update of HomeKit has arrived
The sunny weather of recent days has certainly attracted one or the other of the users in the garden. There is now a welcome innovation from Gardena. The wait is over and HomeKit can now be used in conjunction with the Gardena Smart System. The update for the first quarter of 2019 has been announced.
As a beta tester, we have been using HomeKit for Gardena Smart System since the end of last year. Since then, the system has worked very reliably. HomeKit is now available to all Gardena Smart Home users. Your Gardena Smart System Gateway should already have been updated automatically. If this is not the case, then you must manually trigger the update via the Gardena Smart System application. Individual components (sockets, sensors, etc.) must be manually updated with new HomeKit firmware. This is also done via the application.
Gardena relies on HomeKit software authentication, allowing existing customers to benefit from Gardena Smart System's current HomeKit update.
The following Gardena Smart System products can currently be used in HomeKit:
- Intelligent control of water
- Smart sensor
- Intelligent control of irrigation
- Smart Power external socket
Once the Gardena Smart System hardware is updated, the devices can be used in HomeKit. The integration in HomeKit is very easy. The short description is as follows: Open the Gardena Smart System application, scroll to the screen and click on Apple HomeKit. Take note of the installation code, open the Apple Home app, click the "+" sign in the upper right corner, and then click "Add Device." Now you click on "The code is missing or can not be scanned?". There you already see your Gardena Smart System Gateway and you can add it. Detailed instructions can be found here.
As already mentioned, we have been using HomeKit for Gardena Smart System for several weeks. The set works perfectly and offers all kinds of benefits. Among other things, we use HomeKit for Gardena Smart System to turn on the outlets in combination with LED lights depending on the sunset.
