Hong Kong riot police confront protesters

[ad_1]

Sunday night in Hong Kong was tense as the streets of the city became a battleground again between police and protesters.

Tear gas is everywhere: Once as a last resort, this evening, tear gas is constantly being deployed – every time police lines advance or protesters get too close, or sometimes seemingly for no reason.

The streets around Sheung Wan District, where police and protesters are still facing, are fogged with toxic and burning gas. It also infiltrates homes through windows and air conditioners in this very residential area.

The demonstrators repel: The hundreds of remaining protesters are still determined and seem motivated by the police response. It's back and forth tonight, with skirmishes every 20 minutes or so. The songs, the blows of the stick and the screams fill the air.

The civilians caught in the mix: Meanwhile, pbadersby try to return home, but find themselves stranded by protesters and police. A man told CNN reporters on the ground that he was trying to bring his family home and asked to be directed to a safe place.

No end in sight: The atmosphere is tense and the demonstrators feel they are not following a plan. They will stay out and continue this fight, which they call last chance.
