Newsfile imprisoned Aklotey could not hold back his tears because he was sentenced to serve his sentence

Samson Lardy Anyenini, facilitator of Joy FM's news badysis program, Newsfile, and his guests helped release a man imprisoned for stealing plantains.

Koforidua District Court "A" sentenced barber Solomon Aklotey, 19, to two months' imprisonment after pleading guilty to the theft of the prosecution.

He however explained that he had stolen the plantains to sell them in order to take care of his girlfriend who had just given birth but could not give him money for his upkeep.

He was subsequently fined 600 ¢, failing which he would serve two months in prison with hard labor.

Aklotey could not pay the fine and was therefore thrown in jail.

The host of Newsfile and its guests – the MP for North Tongau, Smauel Okudzeto Ablakwa; editor-in-chief of New Crusading Guide, Kweku Baako; Martin Kpebu, a private lawyer, and Judge Justice Yankson, secretary general of the Ghana Medical Association, affected by the tragic plight of the teenager, decided to help his release.

Some of this money will be used to guarantee the release of Aklotey. The rest must be used to support the new mother.
