The National House of Chiefs has called on Parliament to prioritize issues of national interest at all times as representatives of the people.

They were urged to embrace consensus in the face of narrow digital forces in government and opposition caucuses to bring needed development to Ghanaians.

Speaker of the House Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, who made the call, stressed the need for both sides of the legislative arm of government to cooperate in their deliberations in the national interest.

He was speaking at an emergency House meeting in Kumasi on Thursday.

He urged MPs (MPs) to avoid excessive partisanship and instead seek the best interests of those who have given them the mandate to represent them in Parliament.

He said the situation in Parliament reflected how Ghanaians wanted them to work together and urged them to prioritize Ghana in fulfilling their mandate.

The Speaker of the House also congratulated President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on his confirmation as the legitimately elected President of the Supreme Court.

He also praised former President John Dramani Mahama for following due process to seek redress without disturbing peace in the country.

In the fight against Covid-19, Ogyeahoho Gyebi, pleaded with the leaders not to give up their leading role to complement the government’s efforts to contain the pandemic.

He further urged them to encourage their subjects to avail themselves of the coronavirus mass vaccination exercise as part of the measures taken by the government to stop the spread of the disease.
