How André Gomes and Kurt Zouma continue a proud trend for Everton

In general, the season was disappointing for Everton, but the transfers were a good choice.

Last summer was always designed to be a difficult task for the Blues and the new hierarchy, Marco Silva and Marcel Brands, who were trying to form a new team for the upcoming campaign.

The goal was to appeal to young, dynamic and quality actors at reasonable prices – and this was done to the credit of all.

Two loan transactions were guaranteed on the day of maturity. Andre Gomes and Kurt Zouma have been selected for a campaign to strengthen the team.

A few months later, the two men are key members of Silva's structure and their supporters are keen that they be signed under permanent agreements.

And this is certainly not the first time that Everton fans fall in love with loan stars.

In recent years, at least, the Blues have repeatedly brought players into the club on a temporary basis. It is only for them to be as successful as the permanent relocation request could not be ignored.

Mikel Arteta joined Everton in January 2005 from Real Sociedad, replacing the gap left by Thomas Gravesen in midfield at the time.

The midfielder immediately added clbad and quality mounds to the Blues' setup and played a crucial role in his team's race to finish fourth at the end of that period.

The following summer, Arteta definitely joined the club and a hero from Everton was born.

Steven Pienaar followed in the footsteps of the 2007/08 season, initially making the temporary move to the Borne de Dortmund at Goodison Park.

His partnership with Leighton Baines on the left flank became one of the most memorable couples of all time at Everton, and it was obvious to sign it permanently.

In fact, the South African international joined the Blues later, loaned by the Spurs in 2012, and performed so well and so bonded with his supporters that he again got a transfer permanent.

The situation with Gomes and Zouma is noticeably different, some might rightly add.

They are two high quality footballers, whose parent clubs are among the largest in Europe. Many leading teams on the continent would be greatly enhanced by their signatures.

Thus, in this respect, they will be much more expensive and much more difficult to import permanently than two of David Moyes' most clever catches. It's a lot of a given.

However, Everton have succeeded before. Very recently actually.

Romelu Lukaku may not be remembered among some Blues fans, but during Roberto Martinez's 2013/14 season, he was revered at Goodison Park.

His goals were crucial because Everton was just short of a Champions League position and public opinion was so strong in his favor that the club had to act permanently.

And they managed to get one of the most surprising transfers from the club's history in the summer of 2014.

The form of Gomes and Zouma begins to reach the same level.

The first was fantastic when he was selected for the first time, producing incredible performances, even at Old Trafford and Anfield, to be loved by Blues fans since the beginning.

After a slight dip in form, the dominant international against West Ham reminded Everton fans why he had been so important.

After this match, Silva said: "What we have inside our team, even though it's a lender player, a player of high quality, high quality as a footballer, great quality as a professional, an excellent teammate for all his colleagues and he is all that we expect from a player of this quality.

"Let's see if we can have André permanently in our club."

Zouma had the same success when introduced to the camp and established himself as a pillar at the heart of an improved defense for Silva.

Everton supporters would like him to stay. The Blues would like to test Chelsea's determination this summer, but a possible transfer ban for the London club could scare things away.

Anyway, these two stars have once again shown how the credit market could be used.

It's something that Everton has managed to exploit brilliantly in recent years – and it's good to see that this trend continues.
