How Armor Wars could bring all of Iron Man’s villains back (alive)

Marvel Studios is taking on Armor Wars despite Iron Man’s death in Avengers: Endgame, but the series may bring back some of the hero’s former villains.

Iron Man may be dead, but Armor wars can bring all of his enemies alive in the MCU. Marvel Studios is moving away from the events of the Infinity Saga, but as it enters a new chapter in storytelling, that doesn’t mean they are completely abandoning the past as some of their upcoming projects have ties to the past. . One of these is the Disney + series starring Tony Stark’s best friend, James Rhodes, who is set to face villains who try to use the tech of the awesome billionaire for nefarious schemes. .

One of the shows announced by MCU architect Kevin Feige at Disney’s Investor Day 2020, Armor wars is based on the Marvel Comics storyline of the same title which primarily focuses on Iron Man by keeping his creation away from those who want to use him for the wrong reasons. This narrative has already been tackled loosely in the first two Iron Man films when the Ten Rings and thereafter the government attempted to acquire the technology from him, but although he managed to push this back at the time, the issue will be raised again in Phase 4. The only big difference is that Tony is no longer to protect his property from the bad guys who want to get their hands on it. Now that responsibility rests on Rhodey’s shoulder as one of Iron Man’s closest allies, let alone an official user of said technology.

From the premise of Armor wars isn’t entirely new – as Tony was always actively fighting baddies to protect his technology – it’s not out of the question that those who have tried to acquire Iron Man technology are attempting to do so again now that he left. The show is the perfect opportunity to bring in the tastes of Iron man 2 Villainous Justin Hammer, who was an active government participant, pressured Stark to forgo the Iron Man suit patent so that his company, Hammer Industries, could effectively compete with Stark Industries. Justin teamed up with Ivan Vanko to shoot Tony down, but once Whiplash turned on him, he was arrested and jailed at Seagate Penitentiary. It’s unclear if he’s still in jail, but he could make a move to take advantage of Tony’s absence and try to steal the Iron Man tech again. He might even join forces with Senator Stern whom he knew Iron man 2. Much like Hammer, the former US Senator from Pennsylvania was taken into FBI custody after it was revealed he was part of HYDRA, but he could also arrange a comeback with his former aide.

Armor wars could also see William Gitner Riva return to the MCU. The main technician of Quentin Beck in Spider-Man: Far From Home, he was the poor scientist Obadiah Stane berated for not being able to recreate the Iron Man mini arc reactor in the original Iron Man movie. Years later, he aided Mysterio’s elaborate plan to deceive Peter Parker by giving him EDITH which allows anyone who owns him to access the resources of Stark Industries. While web-slinging has managed to track down the unpretentious gadget his mentor left him, resulting in Beck’s death, Riva is still at large. Presumably he was the one who sent the heavily edited video of Mysterio to the Daily Bugle Net who not only blamed Spider-Man for the villain’s death, but also revealed his true identity. In view of this, there is a chance that it takes into account Armor wars, especially since he was able to get it, he briefly got hold of EDITH for a while.

Of course, the Ten Rings also attempted to steal Tony’s tech even before he became Iron Man. Although they may take into account Armor wars thus, their main story will unfold in Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings which will also introduce real Mandarin. But that doesn’t mean the Simu Liu-led project won’t be narratively linked to said Disney + show – after all, the MCU thrives on interconnectivity.
