Arsenal missed the opportunity to outspend his Tottenham rivals and finish third in the table as they lost 1-0 to Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.
Phil Jagielka – who had been called in the starting lineup only by Marco Silva at the 11th hour after the fall of Michael Keane – scored the only goal of the match after just 10 minutes as a result of the injury. Arsenal's inability to score a shot from Lucas Digne.
The defeat saw the Gunners stay in fourth place, with the four main contenders playing 32 matches.
The Gunners are one point behind Tottenham, who was out of action this weekend, and tied with Chelsea, who will face West Ham at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.
