Several Ghanaians on social media have immersed themselves in the ongoing unrest in Guinea after a group of soldiers overthrew and detained President Alpha Condé after hours of heavy gunfire in the presidency.

It may be recalled that soldiers from this West African country announced on state television that the government had been dissolved in an apparent coup.

The country’s borders were closed and its constitution was declared invalid in an advertisement read aloud on state television by the army chief, Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya, who told Guineans: ‘a soldier is to save the country.

But in reaction to statements on social media, some Ghanaians criticized ECOWAS, especially its leader, President Akufo-Addo, for watching as Alpha Condé amended the constitution to extend his term for the third time in a row. .

Others also wanted Ghana to suffer a similar fate, adding that a coup is what the country currently needs in its state of distress.
