• Some Ghanaians supported the coup in Guinea
• The military declared the Guinean constitution invalid
• Guinean President Alpha Condé was arrested by the army
Several Ghanaians on social media have immersed themselves in the ongoing unrest in Guinea after a group of soldiers overthrew and detained President Alpha Condé after hours of heavy gunfire in the presidency.
It may be recalled that soldiers from this West African country announced on state television that the government had been dissolved in an apparent coup.
The country’s borders were closed and its constitution was declared invalid in an advertisement read aloud on state television by the army chief, Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya, who told Guineans: ‘a soldier is to save the country.
But in reaction to statements on social media, some Ghanaians criticized ECOWAS, especially its leader, President Akufo-Addo, for watching as Alpha Condé amended the constitution to extend his term for the third time in a row. .
Others also wanted Ghana to suffer a similar fate, adding that a coup is what the country currently needs in its state of distress.
According to these people, since Ghanaian leaders have turned a deaf ear to the outcry over the #FixTheCountry campaign, citizens should resort to a coup to overthrow the government.

Aunt, in 2015, you were president of the EC. Would you have needed the consent of ECOWAS if you had wanted to organize a referendum? Okay, the fundamental principles of ECOWAS are set out in this treaty. Find it to read please https://t.co/itzx9MWvi2 https://t.co/YHsPzg9kKl

If anyone tells you that ECOWAS was silent when Guinea amended the constitution to allow Alpha Condé to run a third term, the person is ignorant. ECOWAS has deployed officials to audit the electoral rolls. The opposition in Guinea demanded that https://t.co/VjVNVp68QB

Apparently, ECOWAS congratulated the Guinean president after fraudulently winning the elections by amending the constitution. We praise criminals too much. He has yet to speak about the coup. pic.twitter.com/fABdooPts9

Those who applaud this question really don’t know what a democracy is. How can ECOWAS interfere in the amendments made by a sovereign state?
Does ECOWAS issue communiques when we pass laws in Ghana? https://t.co/hjVFIHYLss

President Akufo Addo will go down in history as the worst president of ECOWAS, after a tenure and a legacy of coups and insecurity, high youth unemployment, economic hardship and corruption of heads of state and African government and ECOWAS. #Guinea pic.twitter.com/POZ6qliGh2

The African Union and ECOWAS are useless organizations. See them condemn the coup in Guinea Conakry.
They were silent when their friend Alpha Konde amended the constitution to extend his term for a third term and was busy shooting Guineans protesting against him.

Where was the President of ECOWAS when Alpha Condé amended his constitution to favor him for a third term? What have African leaders done or said?
