How Jurgen Klopp missed the job of Bayern Munich to Jurgen Klinsmann

Bayern Munich revealed how they are about to appoint Jurgen Klopp as director.

Liverpool and its German coach welcome the Bundesliga giants in the first leg of their first leg of the last 16 meetings of the Champions League on Tuesday in Anfield.

But in the preparation phase of the game, it became clear that things could have been VERY different.

Bayern President Uli Hoeness said his club had almost named Klopp in 2008.

They came so close in fact that he said that an agreement had been reached to bring him to the Allianz Arena almost 11 years ago.

Instead, they chose Jurgen Klinsmann – and the latter, 51 years old of course, left Mainz to succeed Borussia Dortmund.

Klopp knows that things may have been different

"Personally, I have a high opinion of Jurgen Klopp," Hoeness said.

"Many years ago, we agreed to collaborate, but we finally signed Jürgen Klinsmann.

"There, I've shown that I respect him a lot and his work. This is going to be a difficult task for both sides.I hope we'll be first."

The Tuesday clash on Merseyside has already made the football world talk and one of the winners of the 2005 Champions League in Liverpool has revealed a great weakness in Germany.

He "agreed" to join Bayern, it was said

Former Reds defender Sami Hyypia thinks he knows where Liverpool can really go to Bayern Munich next week.

"We have to be very strong from the first match," he told Liverpool Echo. "Ideally, you want a lead to take over in Munich.

"I know Bayern quite well and I think their weakness lies in the defense of counter-attacks. We are not so bad at counter-attacks and I can see us score a few goals against Bayern in this way on both legs.

Jurgen Klinsmann defeated Klopp at Bayern more than ten years ago

"It's not because Liverpool is doing so well in the Premier League that the Champions League is becoming less important," he said.

"It's going to be hard but it's possible. You want to keep fighting for both trophies for as long as possible.

"It makes things more interesting for the fans. They want to see their team compete for the two biggest trophies. "
