England captain Harry Kane added to his international record with a penalty against Poland as he seeks to climb the Three Lions’ all-time all-time top scorer list.

But how good is Wayne Rooney's record?

But how good is Wayne Rooney’s record?

He has been in good form once again this season and added to his record by calmly sliding the ball past Wojciech Szczesny.

Gareth Southgate’s side beat San Marino and Albania in the World Cup qualifiers and closed the international break with a 2-1 victory over Poland at Wembley.

Kane is sixth on England’s all-time list, but how much does he need to become his country’s main man and overtake record holder Wayne Rooney?

You can see the table below of England’s top scorers and how far away Kane is from number one.

England’s top scorers

1) Wayne Rooney – 53 years old

2) Bobby Charlton – 49 years old

3) Gary Lineker – 48 years old

4) Jimmy Greaves – 44 years old

5) Michael Owen – 40 years old

6) Harry Kane – 34 years old

= 7) Alan Shearer – 30

= 7) Tom Finney – 30 years old

= 7) Nat Lofthouse – 30

= 10) Vivian Woodward – 29 years old

= 10) Frank Lampard – 29 years old

It’s incredible progress on Kane’s part, especially as he only made his England debut in March 2015 – a game where he scored with his first touch of the ball.

And at 27, he certainly has time to keep climbing the ranks, as long as he can stay fit and in shape.

Kane has scored 12 England goals in 10 appearances in 2019 and will have plenty of opportunities to add to his overall total in the years to come.

Euro 2020 has been revamped this summer and Kane will undoubtedly lead the line for the Southgate squad during the tournament.

If England succeed, then the World Cup comes in the winter of 2022 and you would think Kane would have a better chance of climbing the goal ranks again.
