The minister-designate for the ministry of Greater Accra, Henry Quartey, lamented the almost non-existent Ga teachers in the region to teach the language to children.
He said that while parents should also make it a personal duty to teach their children the language, the compliment of teachers for supporting their academic work is so limited.
He made this known during his examination by the parliamentary appointments committee.
“I will lead the cause to work hand in hand with the Ghana Education Service, that should be in the curriculum but the challenge is, are there enough teachers to be able to teach Ga in the schools? And we need to make it a priority and Parents should also encourage their children to speak Ga, instead of speaking Ga slang and although it is a cosmopolitan area, let’s also encourage us to speak Ga ”, he said declared.
Henry Quartey is before the Parliamentary Nominations Committee to be approved for the ministry of Greater Accra, following his appointment by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
