Shonda Rhimes is one of the executive producers behind Bridgerton, which became a huge hit for Netflix. (Sixty-three million households watched it in five days! And the number has continued to increase.)
But how, exactly, did Rhimes meet the popular Bridgerton Julia Quinn’s novels? It’s a pretty funny story.
“From what I understand, Shonda ran out of books to read while on vacation and ran into one of mine,” Quinn said during a recent appearance on Tamron Hall.
She continued, “It’s crazy to think my life has changed forever because Shonda didn’t bring enough reading material on vacation, but that’s honestly what happened.
Julia Quinn said she first heard that Shonda Rhimes was interested in her show while sitting in a Starbucks, as all writers do. “I practically fell off the stool because no one was adapting romance novels,” she told Hall.
Netflix announced after the inauguration that Bridgerton will have a second season. The streaming platform sent viewers a cheeky letter from Lady Whistledown to confirm the news.
“Dear readers, La Tonne is in turmoil with the latest gossip, so it’s my honor to tell you: Bridgerton will officially return for a second season, ”we read. “I hope you have saved a bottle of ratafia for this most enjoyable occasion.”
Whistledown continues: “The incomparable cast of Bridgerton will return to production in spring 2021. This author has been reliably informed that Lord Anthony Bridgerton intends to dominate the social season. I will have my pen ready to record all of his romantic activities. However, nice reader, before I set the comments section on fire with more sordid requests for detail, please be aware that I am not inclined to report the details just yet. Patience, after all, is a virtue.
