The fourth season of The crown has finished filming as the coronavirus pandemic hits Europe. And now, almost exactly 12 months later, the cast of Netflix’s royal drama are heading to the 2021 Golden Globes with a total of six nominations, most of all TV series this year.
It is for Best Television Series, Drama, and Actors Gillian Anderson (who played Margaret Thatcher), Helena Bonham Carter (Princess Margaret), Josh O’Connor (Prince Charles), Emma Corrin (Princess Diana) and Olivia Colman (Queen Elizabeth)) all won individual nominations for their performances. Additionally, although Emerald Fennell did not get a nomination for her portrayal of Camilla Parker Bowles in the final season of The Crown, she received two nods for her feature film, Promising young woman.
Sadly, the show’s stars will all be celebrating separately tonight, due to health and safety concerns related to COVID-19. “Good luck and all my love to my Crown family tonight wish we could all be together,” Corrin wrote on Instagram Stories earlier today. Her onscreen husband O’Connor shared a similar sentiment. “I wish all my friends @thecrownnetflix good luck tonight … you are all lush.” He also posted a photo of himself preparing for tonight’s virtual show; he will wear Loewe.

Carter and Colman aren’t as active on social media as their co-stars, but we’ll be sure to update this article, if photos from their awards show appear to surface.
In total, The crown will have six seasons, but when it returns for its fifth chapter, it will have a whole new cast. Notably, Harry Potter actress Imelda Staunton is set to succeed Olivia Colman as queen; Leslie Manville will play Princess Margaret; and Elizabeth Debicki will play Princess Diana.
