It can be difficult for you to fly if you have allergies to food or animals. Airlines allow animals to fly because they take into account the needs of their pbadengers. Some people have to fly with an animal badistance. There are also more people who do not have food allergies than people who have food allergies.

The United States Department of Transportation's Air Access Law protects people with allergies, asthma and disabilities. If a person is allergic and someone else has an badistance animal, the airline must then take care of those two people. However, people are still sometimes disturbed.

A 7-year-old boy had a serious allergic reaction to an animal. He and his family had to get off the plane. Kenny Mendez is the Executive Director of the American Foundation for Asthma and Allergies. He said that when there are two disabled people in the plane, people have to make room for both.

You can do certain things if you have allergies to animals or food.

Animal allergies

  • Tell the airline that you have an animal allergy in advance.
  • Rinse the sinuses with baking soda, salt and water before getting on the plane.
  • Take an antihistamine before boarding the plane.

Food allergy

It is estimated that 15 million people in America have a food allergy. However, many people do not realize that they have a food allergy before being exposed to it. Every airline must have epinephrine on board. A 10-year-old boy had an allergic reaction to a nut. Two people on board gave him their personal EpiPens. The boy is fully recovered.

If you know you have a food allergy, you will need to call the airline in advance. Many people are afraid to let the airline know that they have allergies. They do not want to be removed from the flight. However, Kenny said it was better to let the airline know that.
