Not surprisingly, the new App Store handles software updates in a way very similar to the iOS Store you know if you use an iDevice.
If there are any updates available for any of your installed applications, the Toolbar Updates icon will have a numbered icon showing you the number as shown here. -above.
To install the updates, simply go to the Updates tab and click on the UPDATE button:
During the update, a small progress bar appears in situ, showing you when downloads are in progress and when they are being installed. If you previously removed the app from your Dock when it was installed from the App Store, it will not be added back to the Dock by the installation process.
