HPE engulfed BlueData, provider of EPIC Big Data software as a service capable of performing large scale scans and machine learning workloads in Docker containers.

The company was founded in 2012 by CEO Kumar Sreekanti and Chief Architect Tom Phelan. It received funding of only $ 39 million. There were three rounds; a $ 4 million round in 2013, a $ 15 million fast tour of a group led by Ignition Partners in late 2013 and a $ 20 million investment led by Intel Capital in 2015, with the participation of Dell Capital Technologies.

Blue Data announced the general availability of its products on the Google Cloud platform and Microsoft Azure in September. The strategy is to develop EPIC to support Big Data and AI Bidders, through AI-as-a-Service and ML-as-a-Service, on-premise, in multiple public clouds, or in a hybrid cloud environment. .

It provides on demand provisioning for Cloudera, Hortonworks, MapR, Spark, Kafka, TensorFlow, H2O and other tools for AI / ML and Big Data. BlueData said it offered "nu-metal" performance for containerized AI / ML and Big Data applications, as well as the optimization of Intel Xeon servers and Nvidia GPUs.

In a blog, Sreekanti talked about "the impact" that the purchase will have on the global AI market, machine learning and Big Data Analytics.

"What has changed in recent years is that the company's priorities have evolved from Big Data deployments (with data infrastructures such as Hadoop, Spark and Kafka) to more Scientific Tools," he said. Sreekanti.

"At the same time, hybrid and multi-cloud computing strategies have become the norm." Containers are no longer a novelty in the business. "Today, containers are the norm and technologies such as Kubernetes have put in place a fast-growing open source container ecosystem. "

HPE Apollo servers are the target hardware.

The price of acquisition has not been revealed. The closing is expected to occur during the first fiscal quarter of HPE, closed on January 31, 2019. ®
