Huawei P30 Pro: classy photo wonder with wow effect

[ad_1]

Innsbruck – Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei has launched its latest flagship models, the P30 Pro and P30, just in time for early spring. First of all, we looked closely at the Pro model, but also looked at the "little brother".

Unfortunately, the P30 Pro is not really usable with one hand.

First of all, the external resemblance with the Californian apple is (at least with the P30 Pro) history. Huawei dares to draw here on a winding ground. Due to the rounded edges of the screen, the 8.41 mm thick device looks unexpectedly awkward at first and recalls the atmosphere of the Samsung Edge models. When typing, you need a short familiarization phase because of the inclinations, as the letters on the left and right keypad go a little beyond the "display edge".

The front and back of the smartphone are glbad and, although the phone has a glossy appearance, fingerprints are much less visible than previous models because of the anti-fat layer. Overall, the build quality is very high. What you have to say unfortunately: One hand, the device heavy 158 mm long and about 192 grams, even with the best will or with larger hands only a cumbersome service. The focus is relatively high (in the camera area). To put it bluntly: if you hold the smartphone too loose in your hand, it will tend to Vorkippen.

The side edge of the P30 Pro is relatively narrow.

Fingerprint sensor on the screen, facial recognition at the top

Those who are used to it will have a hard time with the fingerprint sensor of previous models (such as the P10, P20 or P20 Pro) which is spatially separated from the screen. The P30 Pro (also the P30) also has a sensor. But it is integrated directly on the screen. You unlock the smartphone by placing your finger on the bottom edge of the screen. Finding it right away is like looking for an early Easter egg. Unlocking at the beginning of the test was unreliable – but after a few days, everything went like clockwork. Plus, the built-in sensor underneath the notch at the top lets you take full advantage of the 6.47-inch screen.

Unlike the P20 Pro, the P30 Pro's fingerprint sensor is no longer physically separated from the screen by a "button".

Excellent unlocking works with face recognition. However, if the phone recognizes the face, it will not unlock immediately – you must slide your finger up. Once the smartphone has been unlocked, the Android 9 and Kirin 980 processors work without any problem. Even a short game test (Super Mario Run) gave complete satisfaction. The brightness of the OLED screen was convincing everywhere and also in the sun.

The latch is history, the battery is a power plant

What you are looking for in the P30 Pro to no avail is an auxiliary helmet input. Ear plugs are included in the delivery, but they are not connected via a plug, but USB-C to the phone. However, charging and listening to music in itself is not possible at the same time. In the little brother, the Huawei P30, however, is already a 3.5mm plug for the plug provided with an installed jack cable.

Speaking of music, the P30 Pro's speaker is located under the device, next to the USB-C port and the SIM card slot. Dolby Atmos provides the usual sound with whims. However, what the technology removes, it's the stereo sound. Really, but will attract the least.

Unusual: The SIM card slot is located at the bottom of the phone, next to the USB-C port and the speaker. An Aux input is searched in vain.

The battery life of the P30 Pro gives an old look to the competition models: with 4200 mAh, it even surpbades the batteries of the Samsung S10 Plus (4100 mAh) and the iPhone XS Max (3174 mAh) . Even the little brother, the P30, can beat the Apple model with its 3650 mAh. The SuperCharge Quick Charge feature, known as Huawei, is also built into the P30 Pro – you can literally watch the camera as the battery fills up by the second – charging up to 40 watts. Wireless charging is also possible, but the corresponding charger is not included.

Wonder photo with wow effect thanks to the quad camera

Let's move on to the most important part: photography. The cameras installed on the P30 Pro keep their promises. The photography may not be redefined (Huawei rents the camera), but it is definitely brought to a whole new level of smartphone photography. On board the P30 Pro is a Leica quad camera and a Huawei TOF camera. Wow effect included.

background

  • Huawei P-series puts a special emphasis on photography. The Chinese have been working with Leica on the development of cameras and photo software since 2016.

The quadruple camera includes a wide-angle lens (40 MP, aperture f / 1.6, OIS), an ultra wide-angle lens (20 MP, aperture f / 2.2) and a telephoto lens (8 MP, aperture f / 3.4, OIS). There is also a so-called TOF camera (Note: TOF stands for Time of Flight). installed. The camera sends an infrared light to an object and measures the time it takes for it to return light to the sensor. This information can then be used to create a 3D model.

The P30 Pro is equipped with a Leica quad-camera (40 MP wide angle + 20 MP wide angle + 8 MP telephoto lens) and a Huawei flight time camera. For selfies, there is still a 32 MP front camera.

This is used, for example, in facial recognition, which works quite reliably with TOF technology, even in low light conditions. The P30 Pro's TOF camera supports autofocus and the AI Image Stabilization System (AIS), Huawei's artificial intelligence image stabilizer.

The images of the P30 Pro are convincing: powerful colors, incredible depth of field and hybrid zoom ten times unparalleled. The number of pixels varies depending on the shooting mode. Say: in the wide angle module, for example, photos can not be recorded with 40 megapixels (but "only" with 10). Particularly impressed by the test of the super macro mode, which allows to obtain images with bare hands even surprisingly sharp.

Incredible: This photo was taken by a show of hands around 22h. We have the feeling, with the mobile we see better the night than without.

The night photos were really incredible. Although you can almost only see the black at the naked eye, thanks to the Huawei software, every detail was visible on the photos of the cell phone (the test showed that it's better to take photos in handsfree mode in normal photo mode and NOT in night mode). If you did not know, you could easily forget that the P30 Pro is a smartphone and not a camera.

Light in the shadow of the "big brother"

Conclusion: Huawei did it again. With the P30 Pro, the Chinese manufacturer of smartphones clearly leaves out the competition in photography. Leica's quad-camera convinces in any situation and even gives old air to one or the other. The high-speed lenses badociated with Huawei software, especially at night or evening, allow you to make great freehand photos with Wow effect. The official price of 999 euros (in the basic version) is impressive, but in terms of competition, there is still no wear (in addition, there are the P30 Pro from so many suppliers in Austria up to 100 euros less).

With the purchase of the P30 Pro, you can not go wrong. You should still think about it. Because the "little brother" – the P30 – is the pro-model, it's not much. On the contrary, it is convenient (6.1 inches), lighter, makes almost as good images (there is no TOF sensor, though), also has an InDisplay fingerprint sensor and therefore has a long battery life drums. In addition, it has a 3.5mm headphone input and is cheaper from 200 to 300 euros. The only feature that really bothers: Due to the camera highlighted at the back of the cell phone, when it is at the table, not "klackerfrei" be exploited. (WER)

In the P30, Leica installed a triple camera. The design could work: when the smartphone is on the table, it flickers so much that it can not work properly.
