The best material gives both

The main difference between the two devices is the chip: the Exynos 9820 onboard the Galaxy S10 + has never been used before, while we already know the Kirin 980 under the hood of the P30 Pro thanks to the previous model, Huawei, the Mate 20 Pro,

In addition, the two processors are supported by 8 GB of RAM and an internal memory of 128 to 512 GB. However, Samsung also offers a special version of the S10 + with 12 GB of RAM and 1 TB of internal memory. In addition, the S10 + and P30 Pro can increase the available storage space via a microSD card (Samsung) or a proprietary memory card (Huawei).

Both also share a feature already known from the range of partners from last year, namely wireless reverse charging. As for the battery, the P30 Pro's 4,200 mAh battery can be charged at 40 watts, while the Galaxy S10 +'s 4,100 mAh battery does not exceed 18 watts when charging.

There are differences – sometimes more, sometimes less

The P30 Pro also inherits the Mate 20 Pro's built-in optical fingerprint sensor, while Samsung uses an ultrasonic sensor. Both have advantages and disadvantages and are not perfect. One shows speed problems, the other concerns security and reliability issues.

Huawei caresses the headphone jack, but only in the Pro variant. In fact, the P30, like the Galaxy S10 +, has a jack connector that will undoubtedly delight many fans.

At the software level, there is little to say: the two devices running Android 9 Pie, on which the respective manufacturers have put their user interface: a user interface 1.1 at Samsung and EMUI 9.1 at Huawei. The Samsung interface has changed a lot compared to the past, and you can check out our special article to see all the potential I invite you to discover the new version of EMUI, first impressions after 48 hours. Show the hole or drop the notch?

The design of the Galaxy S10 + continues to be based on the infinite style introduced with the Galaxy S8 and, to put it briefly, has never been so beautiful. The edges are narrower and there is more space for the big screen. The compromise here is the hole behind which the front cameras are. The Infinity O-Display is not the perfect solution to the notch problem, but it has at least inspired many users to create original backgrounds.

The P30 Pro, on the other hand, represents a development of design compared to the P20 Pro: for the first time, even a P-series camera has a curved screen on the long sides. The panel of the P30 Pro is slightly larger than that of the Galaxy S10 +, but has a lower resolution of 2,340 x 1080 pixels. In place of the perforated screen, Huawei offers a drop-shaped notch that is much less invasive than the previous generation, thus eliminating the 3D facial recognition function of the Mate Pro model.

With the exception of the Bixby button, to which you can badign a new function this time, the design difference of the two smartphones compared to the orientation of the camera. Samsung has opted for a horizontal network while Huawei continues to stick to the design of traffic lights and arrange the sensors vertically.

Smartphone photography at the next level

In recent years, Huawei has first put innovation in the photo business, and the P30 Pro is no exception. The new Huawei model includes four sensors, developed as usual in collaboration with Leica. However, the fourth sensor is not the most important change over previous models.

The Huawei's 40 megapixel main sensor in the P30 Pro is called "SuperSpectrum" and uses a RYB color filter (red, yellow, blue) which, according to Huawei, can capture much more light than a normal RGB configuration . This will give you better pictures in low light conditions. The P30 Pro also eliminates the monochrome sensor in favor of a wide 20 MP angle.

The third 8 megapixel sensor, equipped with a periscope, uses a special prism design, so the P30 Pro features an incredible 5x optical zoom, 10x hybrid and 50x digital. The fourth camera is a little harder to pin down because it is particularly small and placed under the flash. This is a time of flight sensor (TOF) used to calculate the depth of field and thus improve the famous bokeh effect, while allowing advanced augmented reality features. More about this and about the Master-KI, you can read here:

While Huawei has focused for several years on the KI, double and triple cameras, the Galaxy S10 + is the first real attempt by Samsung to exploit this technology. The South Korean manufacturer's flagship product is equipped with a 12-megapixel dual-pixel variable aperture sensor, a 16-megapixel ultra-wide angle sensor with an angle of view of up to 123 degrees, and a wide-angle lens. a telephoto lens of 12 MP. The software is also controlled by the NPU, which for the first time allows scene recognition via the AI.

On paper and after the first comparisons, Huawei has the camera in mind. But if that's really the case, we need to take a closer look at a detailed camera comparison. In any case, both manufacturers will offer their customers a new photographic experience with their respective models.

Samsung calls the higher starting price

As far as selling prices are concerned, the P30 Pro with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory is available for 999 euros, while you can buy the 256 GB version for 1099 euros. The 512 GB version is not available in Germany. As for the Galaxy S10 +, the starting price is € 1,249 for the version with 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB of memory. The version costs 1,599 euros with 12 GB of RAM and 1 TB of memory.

Both smartphones are very good devices with incredible hardware and offer obvious advantages and disadvantages. However, it should also be mentioned that smartphones have become a substitute for digital cameras for many users and, from this point of view, the Huawei P30 Pro is a big step forward. The Galaxy S10 + can however be used in other categories, for example. the screen, to compete with Huawei and offers the best panel ever installed on a smartphone.
