Callum Hudson-Odoi, the genius of Chelsea, broke his 64-year record and became the youngest player to make his England debut in a competitive match during his 5-0 win against the Czech Republic at of the EURO 2020 qualifier on Friday.

Hudson-Odoi replaced Raheem Sterling after 70 minutes and won his first international selection at the age of 18 and 135 days, beating the record of former Manchester United striker Duncan Edwards.

Edwards was 48 days older than Hudson-Odoi when he made his Three Lions debut in a draw between the British Home Championship and Scotland in April 1955.

The delicate widower also had a positive impact, his late goal being sealed by goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka on the trajectory of Tomas Kalas, who inadvertently deflected into his own net to complete the goal.

The arrival of Hudson-Odoi allowed England to end the match with two 18-year-old players. Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund) made his first start in competition.

This is the first time England has two players aged 18 or under in an international match for 138 years, after a meeting with Wales on February 26, 1881.

Hudson-Odoi was initially named to the Under-21 team in England, but was promoted to the senior player position after being hit by several withdrawals.

Despite not having started a Premier League game for Chelsea, his long-term future at Stamford Bridge is uncertain.

The Southgate team will play Monday against Montenegro in Podgorica.
