Tema, June 17, GNA –
Hundreds of people stormed the Tema Metropolitan Electoral Office
Commission (EC) on Monday to register on the national electoral list and to
participate in national and local elections.
Foresight
voters who were mostly young people challenged every urge to leave, even though
the process started at a slow pace.
In an interview with
Ghana News Agency (GNA) Monday at the Tema Electoral Commission Office for the Subway
Commission (EC), EC Metropolitan Director Tema, Nana Oduro Numapau,
was happy that many people heard the call coming in numbers to sign up.
However, he attested
slow process saying, "Our online system is down, so we're
using the offline method. That's why it's slow. It's a national problem, so
when they are able to solve the problem at headquarters, the line works
faster than what we see, "said Numapau.
He was optimistic
that when the lines are restored, they will be able to register near
three hundred people a day that would help them cover as many people as possible
within 21 days.
He said the slow
the pace of exercise was not deliberate "because the data side does not work
fast, so when you save yourself a lot and that they come here, they would not want
be able to go through the system. "
Mr. Numapau said his
office was currently using machines that did not use the network that was
why they were still recording people.
"The network is a
system of life, so as soon as you save the person, the name and the
the details are added to the national data. But what we are doing now is that,
after registration, we must use the USB key and save the information up to
national data. "
The boss of Metro EC
indicated that these challenges were normal from the first day of the exercises,
"But now that we have seen what the problem is, we would solve it so that
then we'll do what's right and save more people than we have
are doing today. "
