Ramon Abass, also known as Hushpuppi, has hired a prominent criminal defense lawyer, Loius Shapiro, to represent him at his trial in the United States where he faces charges of fraud and money laundering. ‘silver.
Hushpuppi hired Shapiro after Chicago attorney Gal Pissetzky and California-based criminal defense attorney Vicki Podberesky withdrew their services as attorneys. The duo had accused the former Instagram celebrity of refusing to communicate to them.
After a judge granted their withdrawal from the case on February 22, an application to seek approval from Mr. Shapiro as Hushpuppi’s new defense attorney was granted on February 25.
Premium Times reported that Mr. Shapiro, a law graduate from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, began his career with New York State Attorney General Elliot Spitzer.
He has also worked in several agencies, including the Legal Aid Society’s Immigration Detainee Unit, and was a clerk in the Federal Office of Public Defenders in Los Angeles. Mr. Shapiro, a criminal law specialist licensed to the State Bar of California, is an attorney for the Federal Criminal Justice Act Trial Panel for the Central District of California.
