ST. JOHN'S, N.L. – Work is underway to recover the defective Flowline connector that would be responsible for an oil spill off Newfoundland last fall.
According to Husky Energy, subsea operations to recover the connector and connect the flowline began Friday at the offshore site of the production ship SeaRose, opening a window of good weather.
Once recovered, the connector will be inspected to better understand the November incident, which resulted in the leakage of 250,000 liters of oil into the ocean.
According to one statement, 47.5 liters of residual oil were released from the flow line during Saturday's operations, which is considered a slight burst on the water that, according to a spokesman, was " managed "in accordance with the company's spill response plan.
The company announced that Saturday's oil spills would be anticipated and no seabirds were seen on the water at that time.
Operations were halted Sunday due to weather-related complications and are expected to continue on Monday.
