Renowned lawyer Akoto Ampaw
Renowned lawyer Akoto Ampaw has questioned the professional integrity and track record of lawyer Kwaku Afrifa, who is at the center of the $ 5 million corruption allegation against the chief justice.
Mr. Afrifa implicated Mr. Ampaw in his corruption complaints against the Chief Justice. The lawyer who fell out with his client, says his client told him the chief justice asked for a bribe of $ 5 million to tip the court in his favor in his dispute with the Ghana Telecommunications Company and the Land Commission. He also said the chief justice told his client to hire Mr Ampow in his place in order to win the case.
The client, Ogyeedom Obranu Kwesi Atta, the head of Efutu and Gomoa Adjumako had previously seized the General Legal Council of the impasse with his lawyer.
In a rebuttal, Mr Ampaw said it was childish to drag him into controversy.
“And what would be, we may ask, Ogyeedom’s motive in asking the General Legal Council for a refund of money he never gave Afrifa?” By the way, what is the professional integrity record of lawyer Afrifa? These are, in my view, valid questions that we must ask ourselves before rushing to take his allegations seriously.
“Even more absurd is the childish idea that I would get along with anyone, much more the Chief Justice of our Republic, to subvert the cause of justice. So I will not allow anyone to smear my name on it. ‘altar of politics or personal convenience’.
He also revealed that he had not had any relationship with the Chief Justice outside of the public hearing.
He revealed that his involvement in the case happened when Ogyedoom approached him to take over the case and after intense persuasion he agreed.

For the record, I would like to state unequivocally that the only exchanges I had with the Chief Justice in this case were in open court as counsel for Ogyeedom.
Beyond that, I had no relationship with the Chief Justice in this case. Also, although of course I have known the Chief Justice since his law school in the 1970s, once he became a judge, I kept my respectful and studious distance from him, as from others. Supreme Court judges. , past and present, even though they may have been my friends at school.
I adopted this attitude in order to avoid the slightest hint that I could use my personal relationship with judges to subvert the cause of justice. I have never even entered the official residence of the Chief Justice since he was raised to high office. Yes, I know ethical values are short term in our dear country these days, and therefore people are cynical about almost everything and everyone, and are ready to believe the worst in anyone. .
I am also well aware that almost everything is now reduced to nasty partisan politics and that the main political parties will not lose an opportunity to clash, at the slightest opportunity, however tenuous the evidence base may be.
However, I can assure Ghanaians that I am definitely not one of those who have lost their values and are ready to sell their souls to the God of money and political power.
