The president of the Fix the country movement, Mr. Oliver Mawuse Barker-Vormawor, said he welcomed the news of the military takeover in Guinea.
In a series of Facebook posts, Barker-Vormawor, who is also a private lawyer, said “Neho! I welcome the news of a military coup in Guinea.
“I am still awaiting confirmation of its success. Hopefully a new transition process will be put in place soon. Guinea will work again.
Another message read “If only the people of Guinea had made amends, this would not happen!”
“Ghanaians, let’s fix it. We don’t want anyone to have funny ideas.
“The 1992 Constitution should not be changed by the barrel of a gun! It should be changed by our voices.
“No soldier can deprive us of our sovereign right to decide the fate of our constitution. Neho! “
He added: “I don’t understand what’s going on. Do the Guinean people welcome this illegal coup?
“Haven’t they read the insults on my Facebook page?
“Some Ghanaians know Guinea better. They should listen to us here. Neho!

At the same time, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on Sunday condemned the situation in Guinea in a statement.
“ECOWAS demands respect for the physical integrity of the President of the Republic, Professor Alpha Condé and his immediate and unconditional release as well as that of all the personalities arrested.
“He also demands the return to constitutional order under penalty of sanctions. ECOWAS reaffirms its disapproval of any unconstitutional political change.
“She asks the defense and security forces to stay in place. Republican and expresses its solidarity with the Guinean people and government, ”said the statement signed by the President of ECOWAS, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Soldiers have appeared on national television in Guinea, claiming to have dissolved the government of President Alpha Condé.
However, the Defense Ministry said the takeover attempt was foiled by the presidential guard.
This follows hours of heavy gunfire near the presidential palace in the capital, Conakry.
Commenting on this in a tweet, North Tongu lawmaker Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said if action is not taken quickly by African leaders to right the wrongs in society, the era of military takeovers could return.
He said that the factors which are building fertile grounds for coups are emerging in most African countries, a situation, he said, must be addressed immediately in order to support the democracies of those countries.
“The unjustified thirst for a third term, corruption, unemployment, poverty, manipulation of the constitution, debauchery of the ruling elite and impunity are at the root of military takeovers.
“The worrying developments in Guinea that come after similar unwanted military interventions in Mali, Chad and Sudan should remind African leaders that the era of the coups of the 1960s and 80s could sadly return if the unwarranted thirst for third mandate, corruption, unemployment, poverty, manipulation of the constitution, debauchery of the ruling elite and impunity of ANKED are not hindered.
“Instead of waiting until late in the day to encourage sanctions against failing democracies and regional blocs such as the AU, ECOWAS, SADC and EAC should be boldly proactive in calling their peers down the wrong path and by demanding good governance that meets the expectations of the masses, in particular African youth.
