Scarsdale, a city of about 18,000 inhabitants located 35 minutes north of New York City, is the richest city on the East Coast and the second richest in the United States, according to the Bloomberg report, 2019 Richest places.

He is beaten only by Atherton, California, a Silicon Valley city tech billionaire, including Eric Schmidt of Google, and Sheryl Sandberg of Facebook, called home.

Scarsdale's average household income rose $ 30,000 from a year earlier, reaching $ 417,335, according to Bloomberg.

The affluent community, which is both a city and a village, is located in Westchester County, New York, where several cities are regularly ranked among the richest in the country.

Anne Moretti, real estate broker at Julia B. Fee Sotheby's International Realty, said Scarsdale was attracting many Manhattan buyers.

"The Scarsdale School District, which still occupies high-ranking positions, as well as a 35-minute drive to Grand Central makes it an ideal place to live," she said.

By 2018, the average home price in Scarsdale was $ 1.8 million, Moretti said. And so far, in 2019, the housing market has been "very active," she said, despite the high inventory of housing over $ 3 million.

"There have been auction wars on homes in the range of 1 to 1.5 million dollars," said Moretti.

Scarsdale is renowned for its leading public schools. Scarsdale High School was ranked among the top 100 schools in the country in 2018.

Residents of Scarsdale tend to be "leaders in their respective fields of medicine, journalism, finance, literature, law and technology," said Moretti.

I spent a few hours walking around Scarsdale and taking a look at some of his stately homes. Here is what it looks like.
